Maths On The Move

What is Maths on the Move?
Maths on the Move is a unique and innovative programme that uses the concept of physically active learning (PAL) to enhance children’s confidence and attainment in maths.
Designed by teachers and in line with the national curriculum, the programme covers all maths learning outcomes for KS1 & KS2 and can be tailored to suit the requirements and individual needs of pupils.
Offering more opportunities to be active
- <50% of children get the recommended 30 minutes of activity within school per day
- Children become 17 minutes less active per week every year throughout primary school
The numerous physical benefits to being regularly physically active are well known. However, research has also shown that physical activity can also boost cognitive performance and academic attainment.

Cognitive performance
Research has shown that physical activity facilitates brain function by improving concentration, accuracy, and efficiency.

Learning environment
A physically active context, and an alternative learning environment, allows your pupils to view maths from a different perspective.

Purpose and retention
Pupils are actively involved in each MOTM lesson, creating memorable learning experiences that increase the chance of knowledge retention.

Physically active learning
The benefit of physical activity on academic attainment is greatest when activity is incorporated into the school day, rather than as an extracurricular.
PAL capitalises on this advantage by integrating activity within the learning experience. The relationship between physical activity and academic attainment is present across all subjects but the link is strongest with maths.
Want MOTM in your child's school?
If you think your child would benefit from Maths on the Move, then get in touch with their head teacher to see if the school have considered working with uPlay Sports to deliver the programme.
You can also send them a link to our blog which covers some more detailed information about the programme.
How is MOTM delivered in schools?
Maths on the Move has been designed in line with the national maths curriculum meaning it can be delivered during the school day, alongside classroom teaching.
The programme has lessons to cover everything your child will learn in years 1-6. We will work with your child’s teachers to identify how we can deliver the programme to best benefit your child and their classmates.
We are also able to tailor each of our lessons individually so your child will always benefit from high-level planning and delivery in each session.
